Ice Cream Day

Art Lesson
for Ice Cream Day

Objective:
The students will design a label for their created flavor of ice cream.

Materials

  • Samples of empty ice cream cartons (or pictures of them).

  • Construction paper

  • Markers, crayons, colored pencils, etc.

Procedure

  1. Share the examples of the various ice cream cartons.  Discuss the names of the ice cream brands and their flavors.  Point out any pictures or designs on the labels.

  2. Give each child a piece of construction paper to design with their own creation of a brand and flavor.  The students should use the markers, crayons, etc. to design the label.

Other Lesson Ideas

  1. Have the students create an ice cream cone or sundae using a variety of materials.  Fabric scraps, cotton balls, felt, etc. may all add to the interest of their creations.

  2. Have the students make creations from ice cream bar sticks (or use craft sticks).

  3. To be combined with the Movement Lesson, have the students create a poster of different ice cream flavors they would like to sell at their pretend ice cream shop.
