Earth Day

Art Lesson
for Earth Day

Objective:
The students will create a collage of what they love about the planet Earth.

Materials

  • Old Magazines (preferably nature magazines)
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • A large piece of butcher paper, with the outline of a circle (representing earth).

Procedure

  1. Discuss the planet Earth and all it's components - water, land, animals, people, plants, etc.
  2. Discuss the term collage.  Explain to the students how they will be working together to create a collage of what they love about the planet Earth.
  3. Have the students cut out pictures of things they love about the Earth.  (If magazines are not available, they may create their own pictures of what they love about earth and then cut them out to be placed on the butcher paper.)
  4. Create the collage by gluing the pictures inside the circle on the butcher paper.  Give the collage a title and hang it in the classroom for all to view.

Other Lesson Ideas

  1. Have the students make posters encouraging others to take care of the earth.  For example; "Don't Litter", "Recycle", "Don't Pollute", etc.
  2. Have the students make an invention out of recycled objects.
