                    | Materials

                        Red and white paint
                        white construction paper
                        paint brushes
                        pig
                          pattern, if desired   |
                    | Procedure
                        Give each student a piece
of paper to cut out a pig.  If desired,  copy the pig
pattern onto white construction paper and have the
                          students cut out that pig.
                        Give each student some red
and white paint and a paint brush.
                        Allow the students to mix
the paint to achieve the shade of pink they would like
their pig to be.  Discuss with the students what
makes the shade lighter or darker.
                        Once the pigs are
complete, look at all the different shades which have
been created.  The students may want to sequence
                          them from lightest to darkest.
Display the pigs in a pig
pen in the hallway or somewhere in the
classroom.  The pig pen may be a fence cut out
                          from brown butcher paper. |

                      Lesson Ideas
                        Have the students create
piggy banks.  They could be made from paper mache',
shoe boxes, or plastic bottles covered with torn
tissue paper and adhered with a mixture of glue and
water painted on the top. | |
